The weather finally turned nice! It was sunny and warm today so we decided to stroll around the hilly neighborhood of Montmartre and maybe tour the basilica at its peak, Sacré Cœur. It turned out to be a sketchy neighborhood (we saw a fight break out between some girls over a cigarette) and over-crowded with tourists, so that was kind of a bust (except for the awesome Eiffel-Tower-shaped cheese grater that we bought). Then we wandered back across the river to Bd. Saint Germain with the intent of visiting Musée d'Orsay, but then realized that it was going to close in an hour so that didn’t work out either. At that point we decided to relax and sit down at a cool-looking cafe, Mucha Café. That’s when the day got good, because it was a beautiful street with rows of trees running down each side, our waiter was awesome, and the stroll back home along the Seine was very pleasant.
So, because today wasn’t the most eventful day of our trip, here’s a feature from the arts & culture editor: Anna has been exploring pointillist painting techniques on the iPad. Here’s her portrait of a butterfly, that I’m sure will be featured prominently in an art museum, hundreds of years from now:
