After Giverny we entered Bayeux into our GPS, and once again we thanked the powers-that-be how reliably the GPS was working. She has a british accent and an impressive mastery of roundabouts (of which there are many). She took us straight to the vieux centre ville (old town center) of Bayeux, a beautiful old village with (as you can see) a river running through it. The weather was chilly and wet, but the stone streets were cute enough to beckon us out of the car.
The most famous thin in Bayeux is a tapestry that was made in the 11th century to tell the story of William the Conquerer who led the Normans across the English Channel to beat up on the Saxons. It’s over 200 feet long, beautifully embroidered with lots of narrative details like graphic decapitation.
After that we went shoe-shopping because I didn’t properly prepare for all the rain we’re receiving. I got a new pair of black Redskins that I’m pretty excited about. We looked for shoes for Anna too and although we didn’t find her size, she didn’t care because she got to ride in a giant motorized boot outside the shoe store. It was like the tiny 3-horse carousels that Kmart used to have, except that it was free (just push a button, no coin required) so she rode it about a dozen times.
